The Cleantech Open is a non-profit, startup accelerator that focuses on the clean technology area. It is active across the United States in eight regions and also runs accelerator programs and competitions internationally. Since 2005, the Cleantech Open has awarded over $6 million in cash and services. And the 1000+ companies in the Cleantech Open's accelerator programs have raised more than $1.1 billion in external capital.
The Cleantech Open Midwest organization, a division within the larger Cleantech Open network, was founded in 2010. The Midwest organization covers the states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Since inception, the Midwest programs have worked with over 90 start-up companies that have gone on to raise over $20 million in external capital.

In 2015, the Cleantech Open Midwest formed strategic partnerships with the University of Saint Thomas (MN). Our mutual goal is to provide better opportunities for cleantech entrepreneurship across the Midwest geography through close program and strategic aligment. The sharing of resources and networks is helping us to achieve that goal.
